Our Philippines

Maybe a lot of you already know that we Salitype Sistahs all came from one beautiful country... the Philippines. It is a small country that lies in Southeast Asia where the weather is always warm and the people... warmer.

Map Source: ePhilippine.com

Maybe a few know that we came from an archipelago comprising of 7,108 islands [7,107 on high tide]. It has 3 major groups of islands... Luzon [the biggest], Visayas [the smallest] and Mindanao [the 2nd largest]. It is surrounded by the Philippine Sea and the Pacific Ocean in the west, the South China Sea in the east and north, Sulu Sea in the east, and the Celebes Sea in the south. And that explains why we have the most...

gorgeous sunrise...

and the most breathtaking sunset.

Maybe some of you know that we speak different dialects and communicate with each other in two languages... Filipino [or Tagalog, the National language] and English, of course. The Philippines has over 170 dialects and 12 major regional dialects such as. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, Waray-Waray, Kapampangan, Bicol, Pangasinan. Kinaray-a, Maranao, Maguindanao and Tausug. [Source: PhilippinePortal.com]

And maybe if you don't know that then, now... you know. Now, you know that we are proud Filipinos who miss the "Pearl of the Orient".

[We are proud of our beaches. They are one of the best in the world.]

And just to give you an idea where we all came from... we are proudly presenting the HOMETOWNS and OTHER INTERESTING PLACES from where we came from...

  4. sis ruthi, after reading your information-packed and photo-rich post on our beloved Motherland, i am so tempted to pack my duds in a hurry and catch the next available flight home:) your lush words and fabulous photography cause a mixture of emotions to flood through my soul.

all at once, i feel HAPPY ... to see pictures of the world-renowned Philippine sunset. i feel NOSTALGIC ... when i recall many a Saturday afternoon spent strolling leisurely by the sea at CCP Complex (Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City), hand in hand with boyfriends of yesteryears, admiring the breathtaking spectacle of the golden orb dipping beyond the hills in the horizon:) but i feel SAD, too ... yes, i do ... when i think of all the gorgeous beaches back in our native land ... and here i am, up in the mountains of west virginia, hours and hours away from the nearest beach (which couldn't hold a candle to the beaches of Boracay if it tried):(

but, above all, just like you, sis, i feel PROUD ... proud to say that i am a Filipino who hails from the gorgeous Pearl of the Orient. it is posts like this that stir up patriotic emotions in my heart ... that make me want to shout to the world, I AM a Filipino. And yes, it is BEAUTIFUL over there! Come on over and I'll show you what all the fuss is about."

Thank you for an outstanding post, sis ruthi!
