Watch That Watch!

It's craft time once again at your one-stop corner in the blogosphere, The Salitype Society.

In accessorizing, I make it a rule not to put accessories on BOTH wrists. If I can help it, I try to free the other, it's more practical this way and the overall effect does not give out the over-kill look.

On days when I have a plain blouse that needs extra flair, I pick up a fancy watch that I jazzed-up by using textured and colored beads.

There are assortment of watch faces to choose from. These are available at your local craft store.

Beads of different colors, texture and sizes can also be found at your local craft store.

I use toggle clasp as fastener -easy to use, not to mention, stylish!

Here are some of the watches I've jazzed-up. Guess what, I even made earrings to match!

on garage sale and ebay....

I have to admit, i am a big fan of carbooth/garage sale and ebay. Not only they are inexpensive but you'll be amazed of treasures you can find on those places. Not bad though, if it works for me maybe it will work for you. Its just a matter of knowing what you want and where to find it without costing you the earth.

these are my first collection of masks, my love for african stuff started. hubby found these on carbooth/garage sale for £3.00 each, a give away!

it added character to a rather bland corner. it draws your attention to it.

the hubby is keen on collecting "the stuff" as well, it gently rubs on him.prices varies from £1.50 - £3.00 on garage sale.

it provides that blank wall something to look at

all of these stuff are from carbooth sale. you may not like the style but they do blend perfectly well with my african motif.i wont mentioned the price, you got the idea by now how much these stuff cost.

i got a couple more masks and african arts i kept somewhere. i cannot hang another one without going over the top.

each drum were bought weeks apart. you don't see a lot of interesting musical instrument in carbooth/garage sale every week. it cost the hubby £3.00 for the big one and £2.00 for the little ones. the rain maker we got for free.

oh! this is one find i am proud of, thanks to hubby! it is quite unique, the vase and fell in love with it. don't ask me the price, the hubby said its almost a give away!

this is another treasure from garage sale. i told the hubby i am not going home without it. after a bit of haggling, i took it home sweet home with me. the hubby paid £5.00 for this.

these two makes a good corner decor. they do give a forlorn corner a breath of colors and life. for £3.00, it isn't bad, not bad at all.

this is the very first item i bought on ebay few years ago. told the hubby i like it as christmas gift. i did get my wish.

i have no idea at all when it comes to african arts. i bought these two on ebay because one can easily relate to it being african arts, no explanation needed. another reason is the vibrancy of colors will make my hallway a little dramatic...

a couple of african arts from ebay grace my boudoir

it may not be from expensive brand stores or antique shops and may not be to everyone's taste but hey it doesn't look that bad. knowing i saved a lot of money and still managed to have my african theme flowing in every nooks and crannies of my humble abode makes me very happy indeed!

heating your home efficiently...

In a country where you are lucky to have a couple of months of warm weather, insulating and heating your home is a big thing, comfort and financial wise. Not only does it crunched your financial resources by paying sky-rocketing electric/ gas bill it also cramped your style. At this point in time where every penny counts, all must think of a way on how do we keep comfortable and warm during those cold winter nights.

Under floor heating system is becoming "the best" in providing warmth to your home. Not only is it efficient, amongs other thing, it is economical. Since, the heat comes from the ground which means it will heat up the floor first and will keep the chill away from your feet( hey! you can even walk barefoot and you have to agree with me- the head is the part of our body that requires warming last! ). You don't have to worry about wet bathroom floor after a shower or bath, it dries up so quick that you don't need a mop to do the job, ain't that cool! Good news for the lady of the house, you don't have to worry about those dust collecting on your wall mounted radiators. With these radiant floor heating, you can arrange your furniture without those unsightly wall mounted radiators getting in your way of style.

If you're planning of building your dream home, think of those cosy winter nights, think of radiant floor heating. If your house doesn't have one yet, it's about time you should be thinking of installing one. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. Remember..be smart, be warm!

Modern Furniture....

I am a great fan of contemporary living. It is created for comfort and designed to suit your specific taste. Choosing Modern Furniture and decors that will speak highly of you is a task not to be taken lightly. It entails mixing and matching of colors and texture, consideration for space and light, taking into account the kind of personality you want to project. One thing though, do not be scared to express yourself in colors and design -be bold, be unique,be explicit.

Bedroom is "the room" that requires your full attention to details. It is a part of your house that serves not just a sleeping room - it is your place of refuge. Modern Bedroom Sets provides you with just that, solace. It relaxes not just the body but ease the mind as well with its contemporary look and feel.

Modern Furniture

As you set the mood in your boudoir, choosing furnitures for the rest of your house should be easier to do. The theme can freeflow or you may prefer a different motif or eclectic design all together, it is entirely up to you. Put your own stamp in your dwelling place, make it your own. After all, it is a place you will go home to everyday, give it your best shot!

Sewing with Singer

by Chay

"Like mother..like daughter", the saying goes. My love for sewing was learned from my mom. She was a grade school teacher by day and a dressmaker by night. She sew all of her children's clothes and she was always hired to make costumes for students performing dances in school.

When I got my scrubs, even if it was the smallest size available, I had to have it altered. It was American size and was way too long and too big for me. I went and look for a shop who can do alteration. I was shocked when the guy told me it was $15 to have the pants cut and $5 to sew the patch on the sleeves. I have 4 pairs to repair and I couldn't believe I have to pay $100 to repair my uniform. Alteration costs more than the cost of the scrubs. I left disappointed.

I have been wanting to own a sewing machine. My mom owns couple of sewing machine so holes in our pants or a simple repair here and there were always easy. I got to have a sewing machine, I thought - I grew up with it and studied how to sew when I was in high school. I remember sewing a pajama for one of our school projects.

I ran to the store, look for a couple of sewing machine name brands and when I saw this one, it hit me home and I felt like we belong to each other. I brought it home, set it up and after a few minutes I was already running it like crazy.

I got all my uniforms altered in a short period of time and I am very happy about it. Next time I will work on seat cover or throw pillow cases.

collecting currency anyone?

i've been meaning to showcase the hubby's collection of different bank notes/currency for a long while now- which actually were just lying somewhere in the house.goodness only knows where it is.

he used to collect different currency and now he couldn't remember where he puts them. after a long search i found it and started to get my hands busy.

**********

with two not so large and old frames i still keep on top of my closet - thank goodness these are the last of the frames i am trying to get rid of - i did what i can to show as much banknotes as the space allows.

**********

initially, i wanted to display it on a center table (which i don't have and needs to buy) either in an album or on top ( this necessitates a custom cut glass , nah!.)

i hang it instead where you will be obliged to have a closer if not a second look.

if you don't want to look at it while you're in there, well, you have a choice of a blank wall to stare at! i bet, we both know which one you prefer....

old glass wine jars...

the hubby used to collect glass wine jars. i don't know why he collects stuff he aint gonna used in the first place. i asked him to throw it in recycle bin when an idea hits me. i been wanting to preserve fruits and veggies,in oil or vinegar, in bottles for decorative purposes but couldn't come around it.

i bought different types of seed....corn kernels, dried yellow split peas, dried black turtle beans, red split lentils, dried split peas and mung beans and layered them in the jar.

i even used my left over tagliatelle pasta. i ran out of lentils, you see.

it brings out a bit of life to a rather dim lit corner. it makes my day cheerful to see lively colors around. those seeds filled jar are in my kitchen for more than two years now. and yes, those wine jars comes very handy indeed!!

old stuff for decor...

i have an old picture frame that i'd been meaning to get rid off but kept forgetting; a wall in ysabelle's room screaming to be dressed; ysabelle's old drawings( those she did whenever at home and feels like it) and school awards which gather dust on the ref's door ( its filled with her assorted stuff from drawing to writing and invites.!!!)

it isn't much of an art deco nor can be consider something even fancy. but hey! the old stuff can be recycled in a manner that doesn't cost a thing--except glue and few minutes of time.

ysabelle is quite happy helping me with this one. she even told me how she got her few commendations and explained why these art work are her favorites!

not a bad result i have to say....the decor may not be to everyone's liking but i did the planet good by re-using stuff, didn't i?

2. Print, cut and paste the words on the surface of your clock.

3. Glue the wood pieces together using wood glue.

4. Drill a hole where you want the hands of your clock to be positioned.

** For this particular project the machine “hands” of my clock I bought were gold, I sprayed it with black paint to create contrast.
