The Prize and Joy of Exercising

"I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in."- John Muir
Tranquility and Peacefulness at Mono Lake State Tufa Reserve, California
The words of John Muir, a Scottish-American naturalist and early advocate of preservation in the USA, have been part of my inspiration to seek always the beauty of nature. Nature to me is very therapeutic. Whenever I am alone and out in nature, I feel a deep sense of peacefulness and contentment that I am being taken care very well of by our loving Creator. In my heart and mind, I have everything and there is nothing that I want more personally. I feel the greatest joy of how great our God is for giving us this wonderful and beautiful world. Nature is my healer, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Alien Kingdom of Tufa at Mono Lake, CA
It is my love for nature that motivates me to stay healthy and strong. My goal to exercise is not to show off a Beach Body in skinny two piece suits in the summer, but to keep my physical fitness or even further improve my fitness level so I can climb more mountains, so I can experience more canyons, and so I can surf ride more waves in the sea, more so when I will be past 60!
Enjoying the Diversity of Planet Earth in California
I have several dream hikes in my bucket list, and they are my motivators to actively follow our Extreme Body Workout routines. These past 7 days, we took more than 160,000 steps covering almost 100 miles and climbing more than 10,000 ft total in the local mountains and canyons of San Diego. Yet, at every end of every day,
Jumping for Joy at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
we still have the energy to jump for joy while waiting for sunset by the ocean. Exercising outside in the middle of the healing gifts of nature makes me feel that my body, heart and mind gets stronger. In each of our hikes, we feel we are getting more confident with our physical capabilities and fitness level to do some of our dream hikes. We have 90 Day Review to make all our preparations and assess our health. We are hoping that in the next 90 days, we will be in the best shape of our "aging life" :) Staying healthy is a common goal that I and my husband share. We are not into dieting, but we are into healthy eating and maintaining an active lifestyle. For the prize and joy of exercising does not only bring us good health but also brings us happiness beyond compare whenever we are OUT of the DOORS exploring our beautiful natural world.
Stay healthy- eat right and exercise! Let us climb more mountains, explore more canyons and ride more waves in the sea. Life is beautiful, I hope you find it.

Immigrating to Los Angeles, USA

Pacific West Coast
I used to think before that America is a place I could never lived. The stories I heard from TV shows, from hearsay, from movies, were enough to convince me that the United States of America is not my kind of place. Until, one day in 2002, upon the encouragement of my late mom, I took a vacation to America. Before I left home, all my friends told me to take pictures of Disneyland, of Holywood, and of Las Vegas. I said yes to all their requests because frankly those were also just the places I knew about the USA. None of the places I knew could give me a reason to migrate to America.

On my first full day in USA, following the wishes of my friends, I was at Disneyland. However, the long line and the crowd made me dizzy. All of a sudden, I found myself having a throbbing headache. I did not want to spoil the party, especially that the entrance fee we paid was expensive. I simply asked my closest friend if he could drop me somewhere close by, where there are less people, for me to breathe some fresh air. He asked, "where would you rather be, Betch?" I replied: "By the sea, is there a place close to Disneyland that is by the sea?" I was dropped at Laguna Beach, close enough to Disneyland where the rest of my group were enjoying the happiest place on Earth. At Laguna Beach, I fell in love with the city that is bordered by the rugged Pacific west coastline. There, the dream to move to America was born, to strike a balance between work in the city and nature. I started doing the steps to migrate to USA as soon as my vacation ended and was back to the Philippines.

A year later, when I went back to Los Angeles, I was prepared to try my luck migrating to America. One of the first things I did was to consult an immigration lawyer. There are many immigration lawyers in Los Angeles, and it is tough deciding who to consult. Finding a reliable and experienced law firm such as the immigration law firm of Garg and Associates is important to get a realistic immigration counseling more specific to the applicant's situation. I felt I was lucky enough to get the right advise what to do to increase my chances of migrating. Per the advise of the immigration lawyer in Los Angeles, I had my transcript of records evaluated for foreign equivalency. After I was rewarded with the equivalent degree, I focused my job search on my educational qualifications. I felt so thankful that in a month's time, I was able to find a job that matches my educational expertise, thus, my employer's application for a change of visa for me was readily approved. I am so glad for having taken the steps, to realize the dream that was born while I was listening to the music of the pounding waves of the rugged Pacific West Coast.

Carrot Cake and Friendship

It was one of those work-related trips where as always I was keeping in mind my TSS family. This site is where I find inspiration to live life to the fullest. My TSS family keeps me sane when work requires my strength and concentration. Believe me when I say my job could get oh too stressful. I deal with life and death matters. So when the going gets tough, I come here, to simply breathe in and breathe out, and write what is on my mind....

...and eat virtually together with all of you....today I brought a carrot cake from my said trip.
...a slice for the best of purposeful friendship and salitype's cause....

Leaving Our Loved Ones The Best of Memories

Last week I met a person I haven't seen for sometime. He looked a lot different. It seems he went through so much in a short span of time. When his parents were still alive he had the best of everything. He could have become anything he wanted to be career wise. Problem was, he did not want anything and so he did not achieve a thing until he was orphaned. Not knowing the legal matters he should have done and having no access and knowledge of helpful professionals like estate planning attorney in Oakland CA he practically lost almost everything his parents left him save for the house and lot where he is living in now. I heard, he is also on the brink of losing a roof on top of his head.

Had our late uncle and auntie taken advantage of the services of estate planning attorneys they could have saved many of their assets and passed them on to my cousin with ease and certainty. My dad used to say, "of the dead, speak no evil". I dare say though that somehow they missed a thing in rearing their only son. Well anyway, what happened to their family is a huge lesson on my part and something many should learn from.  There are people who could aid us, a professional corporation like Martin APC which takes into consideration the emotional turmoil legal matters could bring to our loved ones and financial draining is worth consulting for estate planning. More than twenty years of experience dealing with legal issues with tact, sensitivity and caring protects our rights and allows us to have peace of mind knowing that when we leave our loved ones we are assured that they will get what we worked hard for without the hassle of losing a lot of money and assests not to mention despair and helplessness. My heart aches for my cousin who practically lost everything materially save for the loving memory of my late uncle and auntie. Yet for as long as one works hard, nothing is impossible and that is a lesson I want to impart to him and my own kids as well so that someday when my husband and I inevitably leave them, we will leave them not only the best of memories but comfort and peace of mind.

Make Kids' Safety a Priority

It is always heartbreaking to hear news about kids who were taken in heaven (sorry, I couldn't bring myself to say the excruciatingly painful word) due to accidents. A few months ago, I read in a newspaper about two children (they are brothers) who met a tragedy on their way home from school. According to the news, the older brother fetched his younger brother from school using his bicycle.

They crossed the zebra line without realizing there's a huge cement truck coming. It turned out the cement truck driver did not see the children crossing so he did not stop and hit them without realizing. How do we stop such tragic accidents from happening? A very visible Children Crossing sign would be of great help especially in roads near school zone.

Safety signs can save lives. There was another tragic accident captured on a video and was circulating over the internet. In the video, a toddler emerged from the house door and walked towards a parked car which was about to leave the house. The car driver (not sure if it was the child's father) did not see the child right behind the car. He started the car engine and tried to manoeuvre backwards. I couldn't bear to view what happened next. It was too much for the eyes of a mom with two young children. I scolded the husband for showing the video to me, I wasn't able to sleep properly after that.

I worry about my kids' safety everyday but I turn my worries into a prayer. Everyday, I pray to God to protect not just my children, but all children in the world from harm, accidents and sickness. Please do the same. Prayer is powerful and life saving too. Let's all start a prayer brigade for the safety of all our God given angels.

ONE GREAT LOVE :-)

Listening to one of my favorite songs...

I stopped...think of some good old memories...and smiled...

I suddenly remembered one particular conversation that I and one of my friends had a few months ago...

She said, " You'll always have that one great love that you'll always remember...!"

I smiled at that thought....ONE GREAT LOVE?!?

She described him as someone that will always remind you of your younger self...blissfully exchanging smiles, love letters ( yup! we had those back in our day! ), shy glances and short lived holding hands...

I couldn't believe it...

But I smiled even wider when she said...but when you'll find the one...some part of you will forget your one great love...

Hmmmm...I think I beg to disagree...:-)

Now going back through that conversation I would have said, Your One Great Love is the one that you're willing  to spend your life with...laughing your lungs out together...sharing sweet nothings every single day...arguing about which dress is more appropriate every time you go out...debating on whether to eat at one of your favorite resto or one of his...exchanging sticky notes every time reminding each of your endless list of to do's for the day...and best of all sharing one bed...one comforter at night...exchanging butterfly kisses...and yes the  almost forever holding hands moments...

I looked at the man sleeping beside me, snoring loudly...and embracing me warmly and said...I found my ONE GREAT LOVE...and yes indeed he gives me those goose bumps every time he'd whisper, " You're beautiful and you know what's the best thing about it?"...What?!? I'd always asked...and he'd always reply with a naughty grin ...THE BEST THING ABOUT IT IS... YOU'RE MINE!

Black Can Be All-Year Round

Black is the most versatile color in my closet. I can do a lot with this color. It can be the base tone for any outfit and can be used all year round in every season. If you’re thinking of hibernating those blacks this summer, think again. Here are creative ways to spice up that drab black blouse and end up looking summerish!
Black goes well with any color. Here, it is paired with green cord pants. Corduroys are crease free, easy to wash and always in style. Throw in a bohemian necklace, add a wooden bracelet and spice up with a textured bag and you’re good to go. A textured bag can add character to your whole ensemble if both your top and your bottom are plain colors.

Same black blouse paired with a short and sassy electric pink skirt! Need I say more? It has summer written all over it. Accessorize with a low peep-toe, slip-on and bright pink necklace and you are ready to hang out with friends for that late afternoon chit chat in a street café.

Your ever–dependable black blouse is still good to go. Capris are always in style. This aqua pair is inviting you to sit in a quiet park –read a book or just breathe fresh air and enjoy the cool breeze of summer afternoons. Spice up your black with a glittery tote and bejeweled flip-flops. Big necklaces in bright colors steal the show and take the attention AWAY from the drabness of that black.

So gather up those accessories and bring out those blacks –they go together well, be it during winter, spring, fall . . . or summer!

What Makes Life Sweet? A Toast To Health And Friendship

What makes life sweet? Perhaps it is the sugar we put on our drinks?

..or the fruits we put on top of our list...
or simply....

the laughter and the joy that surrounds us when we meet people...
who help us make a difference....
wearing our favorite colors, and our long, silky hairs and feeling fashionable and in-style
simply because we are together and the glow on our cheeks is
enhanced by happiness...
through writing for a cause across the miles...
the love, the sisterhood and the friendship that taste oh so sweet...
and calls out to us each time...
it is a life blessed with caring, and selflessness...
a life lived grace, and natural beauty
that makes us truly healthy...

here is a toast to goodness, to sharing...
over a cup of "calamansi"...
and tons of laughter in between....

What To Do When You Think You Are A Victim of Medical Malpractice

Before having my shower at work the other day, my attention got caught by a news flash about a father asking for help regarding his baby who apparently sustained injuries while confined in a hospital. So I waited for the news clip to know the facts. Apparently the baby was premature and the baby's condition was allegedly made more critical by the alleged malpractice of a hospital staff. The news report said the hospital management is looking into the case while the parents are adamant and seeking for justice. The mother in me felt so bad and prayed the parents could avail of the services of efficient people like a medical Malpractice lawyer in Louisiana who could aid them in their plight.

So what does one do when he or she thinks a medical malpractice has been committed? It is best to seek the advise of experts in the field of medical malpractice who could fill in the information one needs because dealing with a sick loved one whose condition was worsened because of a health worker's inefficiency could be very physically as well as mentally and emotionally exhausting. I dressed up for the remaining hours of my shift at the hospital and prayed for guidance that I may not injure anyone in the practice of my profession so my clients will never have the need for firms like Chopin Wagar Richard & Kutcher, LLP who have lawyers always ready to lend a hand to victims of medical malpractice with their expertise in personalized handling of malpractice cases taking into consideration the need of their clients to understand their legal rights as well as obtain just and fair compensation for the injustice suffered.

As we go about our work each day may everyone treat the people we meet with the same caring and respect we give to the ones we love. In that way I think we can contribute in making the world a better place.

Today I am free from work and will take time to enjoy the great outdoors while praying for the ill to get well soon and the health worker's hands to heal and not injure.

Family Adventure

We took advantage of the kids' vacation to take another trip out of town. It was actually a spur of the moment decision while the hubby and I were about to go to sleep the night before the family adventure. We really did not have a particular place to visit but needed to do early shopping for their school supplies fearing the long last minute shopping queue at the bookstores. Suddenly excited about traveling realizing we had so much time for the week because the hubby was also on a break from work we searched on line like little kids for great places to visit. The hubby kept chuckling beside me as I browsed airline sites. We were laughing at our silly idea of wanting to fly at once without planning and all. The kids were all hyped, jumping and shouting and all beside us. After an hour realizing how unrealistic the preparation was, we decided to put the out of the country plan  on hold. Inspired by Family Adventures in Nature site, where it helps families get nature back on their calendars,  we agreed to visit hot springs which are located around three hours from home via road trip.

When Times Get Tough – Downsize

There is no question that the state of the economy is extremely uncertain today. Conspiracy theorists speak about all the impending doom that will inevitably shake down the United States, holding on with every fiber it has until the country eventually crumbles to the equivalent of a third world country. According to their beliefs, the currency will be devalued to such an extent that the common family will not be able to afford staples such as bread, milk and eggs. Unless families own fertile farmland with no mortgage and can raise healthy cattle, they just won’t be able to eat. Hopefully, these alarmists are grossly over exaggerating the possibilities, but their words do make people think about survival during tough times. Luckily, self-storage units can come in very handy during apocalyptic conditions. Here are just a few examples.

Zombie Invasion
In the event that some future catastrophe creates a population of flesh-tearing, brain-eating past human walkers, storage facilities might make a good hideout. As seen on Keyport Self Storage, there are usually properties that have strong, high fences that keep unwanted guests on the outside, and the individual units could comfortably house survivors ranging from one individual to entire families. Assuming there is still electricity, the spaces could easily be kept warm or cool, depending on the season. Most units also have lighting, which would not be seen from the outside, so no attention would be drawn to the property. And with the practically air-tight, windowless environments, campers would be sure not to leave a scent for the zombies to trail. Finding food and clean water is another matter; but self-storage facilities will at least provide shelter.

Rising Prices of Rent
One of the first necessities that inflation affects is the cost of food. The second negative influence of a failing economy is the cost of home ownership and the lack of affordable rental properties. It is not uncommon for people to sell their furniture and other belongings in order to support their monthly mortgage or rent obligation. Well, one way to solve the problem is to rent space in a storage facility. Consider the possibilities before you flat out reject the idea. The units are practically as big as some studio apartments, and can be rented in parcel sizes to meet every need. They are clean, well-maintained and quiet. Think about it, your neighbors would be furniture, clothing and unwanted household objects. No rowdy late night parties or high volume music to worry about there! Compared to the average rent for a one bedroom apartment, self-storage units are less than one quarter of the going price. There are no extra utility costs since the electricity is already included in the rental property and you probably cannot expect to have cable television installed in the unit. So, spending time on education, reading and family games will overtake the internet and movies. It really all makes perfect sense when you consider the option from every angle.  The only problem is getting permission from the property owner. And asking for a key to the restroom…portable toilets can be rather inconvenient to maintain.

Blogging as a lifestyle

As a student, albeit my penmanship was not good enough to win a secretarial post during each classroom election, I love to write. I have written a lot of poems and essays during my early years in school. And I knew they were good stuff not because I have written them, but mainly because they were products of my innocence and unassuming juvenile imagination.

Now that I am an educator myself, I have taught students how to write. Oh how I long to read again, once and for all those old scripts that had once been the impression of my childhood. But much to my desire to read them again and to come up with a compilation of my earliest works... it is hopeless for I have lost most of them, regretfully.

It was an excerpt from the unpublished book I've ever written entitled - Sawasdee, The Amazing Experience.

-----------------------------------------------------

Yes, when I was a little younger... writing was a way of life to me. I grew up writing my emotions. I write when I was happy. I write when I was sad. I write when I was angry. I write when I was bored. I write when I was hungry. I write when I felt loved. I write when I was in-loved. I write when I had nothing to do. I write when I was inspired and I write until my fingers were numbed and aching.

Fast forward to the 21st century. Blogging is my new writing. I blog when I am happy. I blog when I am sad. I blog... I blog... I blah-g! If there is something I need to say, I blog it. When there is something I feel, I love to blog it. When there is something I don't like, I would blogging whine it. When there is something I hate, I freakin' blog it too. And when I am financially challenged, I will take opportunities to blog it as well. [wink*] What else do you think I will do? Yeah right... blog it! Why not? It's the cheapest way to cure psychosis. It is the only thing that can keep my sanity intact. And yes, it helps me to go shopping too.

I eat, drink, breathe [and shop] blog... so here goes... whatever state of mind I am in.. I just blog it away. Happy blogging everyone.
