Hubby's Become Obsessed

Thanks for the guest post by Jo Levy

My husband has become obsessed with saving money at home. He’s started timing all our showers and having us eat only the stuff he can buy with coupons. He recently went to electriccompaniesindallas.com and switched all our utility companies (the ones we’ve had for about 10 years) to new, cheaper services and he’s even talking about having the kids get part time jobs. They’re only 14! I don’t know where all this crazy money worry is coming from but I know it has something to do with the fact that his brother just got laid off. I’m a homemaker and have been for years and now that the kids are getting older I think he’s starting to think about how much it’s going to cost to send them to college. They’re both girls and I know he said he’s had nightmares already considering how much it’s going to cost to pay for both their weddings! I keep telling him he’s putting the cart before the horse and there’s no reason we need to be cutting back to such an extent right now while they’re still in middle school! He’s always been a bit of an alarmist and it’s just part of his nature – in fact, it’s part of why I married him! I love that he’s so responsible and that I never have to worry about money but I don’t want us to live our whole lives just consumed about how much we’re spending on every little thing. I want to be able to go out to dinner to celebrate birthdays and buy each other presents if we want to. I just don’t understand why it has to be to one extreme or another – I think we’ve both showed that we can be responsible and think clearly about how to spend and how to save. I need to get him under control so he won’t have a heart attack by the time he’s 50! At this rate that’s where he’s headed…
