My Maine

I'm so excited about summer. I have been waiting for summer all seasons long. Hahaha. Well, if you live in the Down East you know what I mean. Winter is bitter and cruel. It is cold and long. And it is harsh and unforgiving. Luckily, this year it was all the opposite of what I said. We sped up to Spring and Summer came too early. Technically, speaking.

Summer is the most-awaited season in Maine. As the flowers started blossoming and the trees begun budding... Mainers get ready to go camping. Well at least for us - the Gregoires. LOL. Oh yes, it's now a family tradition. And with camping comes - gold panning. So we are itching to go to our summer usual destination - Byron, Maine.

So a couple of weeks ago, we went up to Byron, Maine to check how the river was. We started gold prospecting a couple of days before "summer" official kicks off. It was still a little high due to non-stop rainfalls the week before but a little manageable. There were a few people down the river gold panning already. So we also tried Hubby's improvised sluice.

My friend Medy went with us and she was initiated to a whole new Maine lifestyle. She went camping and gold panning for the first time. And she loved it.

Well, we didn't get gold nuggets [just yet]. We found a couple of gold specks and that was all about it. It was not bad for just an overnight stay at Coos Canyon. But we did have a good time... and that is priceless.
