Catalina Island

Our family tradition allows the birthday celebrant  to choose the restaurant to eat out and the place to spend his/her special day. On my birthday, I chose a place that offers a lot of activities for the  whole family. The planning began two months before my birthday. I started searching online for travel deals and found discounted coupons offered by groupon.com for a trip to Catalina Island.

Catalina Island, is an island off the coast of Southern California just 22 miles (35 km) south-southwest of Los Angeles. You can be on Catalina Island in as little as 15 minutes via helicopter or one hour by boat from the mainland.

To enjoy the hills above the town we rent a golf cart. Golf cart rentals are abundant in town and you can easily explore the mountain terrain around Avalon in an hour or so.

The view from the top of the hill

Propel 500 feet through Descanso Canyon on the only Zip Line in LA and Orange County. You will travel close to three quarters of a mile over five zip lines high above the canyon floor pushing 45mph.

Come face-to-face with Catalina’s abundant marine life by cruising five feet under water in a spacious, climate controlled cabin.

The only Glass Bottom Boat designed with fish feeders to let you feed the fish yourself right from your seat!

My choice - clam chowder soup

  1. I also tried such a submarine once but I wouldn't do it again. I am not in control myself.

    Greetings,

    1. I had a great time, but I felt motion sick after a few minutes under the water. It could be the movement of the ship and me trying to take as many pictures as I could that made me so dizzy.

This is probably the last time I would do a submarine ride too.

      Thanks Filip !

  2. yummy choices and beautiful experience minus the seasickness. We usually take Bonine (motion sickness pill) if we take boat, just so we won't get sick. never been to Catalina, and to think it is close enough to us, thanks for reminding me Chay of its beautiful existence.
