Window Box Planters

While growing up our family lived in a 4 bedroom apartment in the downtown city in Manila. The apartment was adequate for our family but I had to share room with my older sister, my brother had his own room and my two younger sisters shared a room. Both of our parents worked in the city while all of the children attended school not too far from home. We lived in a nice little town and we made a lot of friends in our neighborhood.

Although we loved the apartment we lived in we didn't have enough room to have a pet or a garden area to grow plants. My parents both grew up in the country where homes were built in the middle of acres and acres of land with big fruit trees, vegetable gardens, and flower plants. Backyards were used to grow different kinds of vegetables for the family. My parents told us stories if they ever needed tomatoes, onions or eggplants, they would just go to the backyard and pick them. Everything they ate when they grew was home grown. They also raised chickens and pigs in the backyard too.

One day my parents bought a couple of window box planters and we placed them in front of our apartment by the window. We grew multiple colored plants in these window plant boxes. As the plants matured we received a lot of compliments from our neighbors. Not only did they provide entertainment and beauty to our neighborhood they added a curb appeal to our home. My parents decided to buy more garden window boxes and placed these in the back of the apartment where we planted small vegetable plants. We enjoyed watching the vegetable plants grow and bear fruit.

When we all graduated from college we bought a bigger house with a huge yard. My parents were so thrilled and excited to buy fruit trees and different varieties of flowering plants to decorate the big yard of our new home. The first day we walked to our new home it was a dream-come-true for my family brightened by the plants and fruit trees colors and fragrances.

  2. They are always better than pots and i like them too. in fact your story is similar to what my parents tell so many fruit trees in the back yard as if their house was built in the middle of an orchard.
