Two years ago, our family flew to Indiana to spend Christmas with my in-laws and to see their new house. My mother-in-law's health has declined and maintaining a large home has become too much for her . They own a 4-bedroom lakefront home with a 3 acre yard. When my father-in-law was much younger, he would mow the yard and maintain the lake. With their age and condition, they decided to downsize to a 2-bedroom home with a smaller yard. It was hard for both of them to leave the family home where they raised their two boys. They have a lot of great memories in that home.

During our trip to see my in-laws we enjoyed a week of great family time enveloped in reminiscing and enjoyed lots of  food. My mother-in-law loves to bake pie and she taught me how to make apple cobbler, peach pie and coconut pie. It was more of an honor for me to have her famous recipes passed down for generations through family member. Before we left, my mother-in-law gave me a suitcase which she wanted me cherish. Inside the suitcase was her collection of satin bed sheets, bed covers, mattress covers, bed skirts and satin pillowcases. I was overjoyed and in tears. My mother-in-law loves to decorate and she has the highest quality of things one can only imagine. Just a few short years ago their home was featured in a regional magazine as one of the most beautiful homes in the area. I gave her a big hug and told her I will treasure the things she passed on to me.

A couple of weeks after we got home, we received a shipment from my parents-in-law. They shipped us more items from their former home that could not fit in their new house. These new items have been in their family for many years, passed on from great and great great grandparents. These items will be enjoyed and cherished by our family now and follow the tradition of being passed onto our children.
