my child

i am awake most of the night
just staring at you
as you lay peacefully
asleep by my side

i say a little prayer
to the mighty heaven's above
to keep you from danger
and to always light your path

you swell this mother's
heart with pride
with your sweet words
and your loving hugs

in you i saw
my purpose in life
i shall pass through it
with you as my prize

i shall overcome obstacle
thats been placed on my path
keeping you always
the crowning glory in sight

i cannot promise you
a pain free life
sometimes you had to cry
to know that it hurts

one thing is for sure
my dearest child
i shall stand by you
till all storms in your life has passed
